The call has gone out for singers to come together and form a community choir for the Green Island “Festival of Carols” in December.

St Margaret’s Presbyterian Church organist Rodney Clayton will lead the popular carol festival, on December 15, and is searching for singers to perform “interesting and unusual carols”.

“We always have a great turnout for the Festival of Carols, and the congregation enjoys singing some of the more well-known carols,” Mr Clayton said.

“The choir’s role is to sing some new and different works.”

The Green Island Festival of Carols was founded by the late Jack Rutherford about six years ago and Mr Clayton took over last year.

“It’s a lovely event that really helps to bring the whole community together,” he said.

Mr Clayton hopes to start rehearsals next week, and these will be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays, depending on what suits the majority of singers.

The Festival of Carols will be held at St Margaret’s Church, Green Island, on December 15, at 7pm. The carols will be followed by a potluck supper.

People who are interested in singing in the choir are asked to contact Mr Clayton by phoning 488-2648 or 027489-7643, or emailing
