Fresh from “lockdown”, indie-jazz duo Karin Reid (voice) and Alex Wolken (electric guitar) emerge with revamped material.

Expanding on their previous project “Songs From Inside and Outside the Jazz Idiom”, Reid and Wolken dig deep to deliver “noir” takes on favourite tunes this Saturday night at Dog With Two Tails.

From Mingus to PJ Harvey, Coltrane to King Crimson and beyond, the duo coax rich and evocative harmonies and subtle grooves from their minimal setup.

Wellington-based Reid uses her deep vocal tones to interpret and explore a range of classics from the swing and bebop eras, and ballads from the American Songbook.

Dunedin-based Wolken is a guitarist, composer, and songwriter.

As a guitarist his predominantly finger-style electric playing is rooted in modern jazz while drawing on elements of blues, dark psychedelia, and free improvisation.

Doors open at 7pm, music starts at 7.30pm.
