The Dunedin City Council remains in the dark about the whereabouts of a missing solar light from a freedom camping site.
A solar light was installed at the entrance to car park of Ocean View Recreation Reserve to illuminate a freedom camping sign in the middle of last year.
When it was installed, Saddle Hill Community Board chairman Scott Weatherall said the light was put up to help freedom campers comply with council bylaw rules, some of which were displayed on the sign.
Freedom campers had been entering the domain at night and were not aware of the restrictions.
The solar light helped shed some light on the information they required, he said.
Council parks and recreation assistant planner Stephen Hogg said the council had not been aware the light was missing “but it will be replaced as soon as possible”.
