‘Right choice’ to return party to gardens

Detroit Taivairanga (6), of Mosgiel, calls to a friend when climbing play equipment at Party in the Park on Sunday.

The decision to move Party in the Park was the right one, Festival of The Plain chairman Ian Chalmers says.

The annual event returned to its original home in the Mosgiel Memorial Gardens on Sunday after being moved to Peter Johnstone Park two years ago in a bid to make the party bigger.

The move was the right one, he said.

“It went exceptionally well. Going back to the gardens was definitely the right choice, by far.”

Feedback from some of the thousands of “stallholders and punters”at the party has been that the event was “fantastic”.

“It had a good vibe.”

The feedback included how people enjoyed the stallholders setting up under the shade of trees, creating a more “friendly” atmosphere than the open space at Peter Johnstone Park.

Planning had started for the event to return to the gardens next year, he said.
