Relocated carpet retailer finally up and running

A Mosgiel carpet store is finally open after relocating.

Mosgiel Flooring First was due to open on April 1, but owner Tracee Porter had to “pull the pin” due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

She bought the business, then called Dunnes Flooring First, about 18 months ago and planned to relocate.

“The goal was always to change the name and get a bigger shop,” she said.

“It just so happened that we saw the [new] building and thought about the change.”

The new Gordon Rd store, formerly Bryan Wheeler Motors, was in a “prime location” but delaying the opening had been stressful.

It took a lot of work to revamp the building and the store eventually opened last week.

“This came together probably the day before.”

Most of the stock was new and the final pieces arrived the day before opening.

Ms Porter has been in the flooring industry for about 16 years and had always wanted to own her own business.

She was proud the store was locally owned and operated.
