A tree was struck by lightning on a farm north of Outram on Sunday.
Outram Volunteer Fire Brigade members were deployed to a blaze in trees on Traquair Station on Lee Stream, Outram Rd about 2pm, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said.
A helicopter with a monsoon bucket fought the fire from the air as the brigade battled it on the ground.
Rain helped the crews extinguish the about 15sq m fire.
The brigade posted a photo of a tree struck by lightning on social media.
Mosgiel Fire Station station officer Mark Dyer said he was at a dog show at the Mosgiel A&P Showgrounds and lightning struck a transformer. “It was loud.”
