A chance to connect with nature, enjoy some active relaxation, and socialise together drew the Grow Dunedin group to visit the Otago Youth Adventure Trust’s Berwick camp late last month.

Visit organiser and Grow group co-ordinator Shirley Wilkins said the trip was the second visit to Berwick for group members, volunteers, and friends, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

‘‘Our aim was to get people out to connect with nature, and thereby help to improve their mental wellbeing,’’ Ms Wilkins said.

‘‘Everyone took part in activities, such as orienteering, canoeing, a treasure hunt and walks with mindfulness, and it was a great chance to socialise as well.’’

About a dozen people took part in the visit, which was funded through a grant from the Bendigo Valley Foundation.

Grow Dunedin provides support for people who are depressed, anxious, lonely, or lost, through weekly meetings and occasional extension activities.

The meetings are held on Mondays from 5.30pm, at 22 Manse St. ★ For information, phone 027 565-6556, or visit the website
