A showcase of prizewinning country music performers is coming to Mosgiel this week.
In July, The Star told the story of Drewdod Promotions founder Terry Bartlett launching an event promotions company after Dunedin musician Sonny Ruri dared him to hold a concert.
Mr Bartlett, of Mosgiel, accepted the dare and held the Winter Warm Up concert in Balclutha on July 20.
“Everyone enjoyed it and we all came out of it smiling . . . it was an absolute blast.”
Now he was bringing a concert “closer to home” featuring musicians who had won sections at the Gold Guitar Awards this year.
The event – September Showcase – would be held at the Taieri Bowling Club from 7.30pm on Saturday, September 28.
The musicians who are set to perform are Fiah Adams, Jacinta Kerepeti, Kylie McGinnis, Heather Thacker, Ocean Waitokia and Valley Bluegrass.
The musicians would perform the songs they played to win their sections.
The Drewdod Show Band, which included Mr Bartlett on drums and Mr Ruri on bass, would back the musicians.
“The plan is to fill up the bowling club and have another smashing night . . . it’s going to be a magical show,” Mr Bartlett said.
A raffle would be held to raise funds for Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust.
The raffle prizes include an Ashton electric guitar and a range of gift vouchers.
Mr Bartlett hoped the showcase would be the first of many at the club.
The club was a vital part of holding a concert and dinner event on the Taieri.
“It’s an awesome place to play.”
Club manager Rob Gibson said the club was happy to be involved in providing “a social night out” for the community.
When asked why the club was a popular venue for a range of events in Mosgiel, he replied “because there is nowhere else”.
“Everyone walks away from here with good memories.”
Tickets for the buffet dinner at the concert are available until tomorrow.
