Dunedin residents made the most of the sunshine on Sunday by heading to the Brighton Gala Day.
About 12,500 people stopped in at the Brighton Domain, which was full of stallholders, amusements, rides, activities and displays.
Event organiser Colin Weatherall said it was “pretty jam-packed” between 11am and 2.30pm.
Helicopters Otago, which was giving people scenic rides, was “extremely busy” and people enjoyed watching the Police Armed Offenders Squad display.
Stallholders he had spoken to said it was a great day for them and they would be back next year, he said.
Despite the odd issue with car parking, there was no major drama, he said.
“Most people went away with a smile on their face . . . and so from that point of view we are absolutely delighted.
“It was a typical gala day at Brighton – plenty of sunshine and plenty of smiles.”
About 10,000 people went to last year’s gala day.
