As thousands of international cricket fans rolled into Dunedin for this week’s test between New Zealand and South Africa, which began on Wednesday, another match was played in the city between two heavyweight institutions.
Mayor Dave Cull brought out his umpiring talents at the annual Town v Gown cricket match on Monday.
University of Otago and Dunedin City Council staff, including council development contributions officer Nic Jepson, faced off in the friendly match at Logan Park.
Town batted first, racking up 71 runs, for the loss of nine wickets, in their 15-over innings. Gown chased this down easily for the loss of only one wicket finishing on 73/1 in 10 overs.
