A chance to gain entry into the final qualifying round of the NZ Open was good motivation for players in the Taieri Classic golf tournament on Sunday.

A field of 15 players in division 1 vied for the top honour which was won by Matt Tautari, of Invercargill, who carded a morning round of 70 and an afternoon round of 69 to give him a three shot lead on Mark Andrews, of Taieri Lakes.

A hole in one on the 17th hole by Arrowtown player Jack Turner helped him tie for third place with Jonny Mackay, of Cromwell.

There were 38 players in division 2 which was won by Luke Worthington, of St Clair, with a gross score after 36 holes of 151. The best net in division 2 went to Sam Cross, of Taieri, with a net score of 137 after 2 rounds.
