The Taieri Netball Club is back on court.

Club secretary Christine Dyer said the club was founded in 1968, closed in 2001 and formed again to enter two teams in the Dunedin senior competition this year.

The first games for the 19 players in the two teams were in the Edgar Centre on Saturday.

The club’s Blue team beat Macandrew Blue 54-7 and the Gold team lost to the Southern Crows 18-29.

The start of the season had been “great”, Dyer said.

“Our aim was to get up and running and we have ticked that box.”

The club had “a lot of support” including funding from Bendigo Valley Sport and Charity Foundation.

The club was seeking sponsorship, Dyer said.

“Because we are new we’ve had to start from scratch – down to balls, bibs, dresses and training tops. We’re getting through with the bare basics at the moment.”
