Bus passengers were replaced with Christmas presents last week, as Dunedin schools and businesses helped Stock the Bus.
Organised by Presbyterian Support Otago, a Ritchies bus drove around Dunedin on Friday collecting items for the Family Works Christmas appeal.
About 3700 items were collected – about the same as last year – and will be given to 220 families in need.
When the journey reached Roslyn Kindergarten at noon, the children were excited to put their items on the bus.
Head teacher Gay Crombie said it was the first time they had been involved and the children “could not wait” to take part.
“Our kids have just loved it.”
Some of the items they gave included toys, books, pens, wrapping paper and food.
“This community tends to be behind a lot of these things.
“It certainly is a wonderful initiative by Presbyterian Support.”
The bus also visited six schools and made three stops at businesses.
