The rebuild of SPCA Otago’s Opoho site is under way and “really exciting”, general manager Sophie McSkimming says.

The organisation had been waiting for final consents to begin the rebuild after the education centre was demolished in early March and the consents were approved last week, Ms McSkimming said.

She expected the work to take about three months. After that, the dog centre would begin to be demolished and rebuilt.

However, she reiterated that while the building project was under way, about $250,000 still had to be raised towards the $1.5 million target.

The project had been supported by the dog swimming day at Mosgiel Pool at the weekend, which had brought in more than $750 to the rebuild fundraiser, she said.

“It was an awesome day,” she said.

SPCA Otago was thankful for the ongoing support for the rebuild campaign, she said.
