Before Santa paraded down George St on Sunday, he delivered presents to children at Dunedin Hospital.
Santa Parade Trust chairwoman Michelle Ellwood said he, along with some children in the parade, visited about a dozen children and left about 40 presents under the tree for those who would check into the ward.
“It was really lovely.
“All the Dunedin Hospital staff in the children’s ward were just outstanding. They were really nice.”
Ms Ellwood said there was a “fantastic turnout” watching the parade in the afternoon. People lined the street, three or four people deep in places, from the start right to the end, she said.
“The kids were just so excited.
“I am just so relieved it was not raining.”
It was the parade’s 21st year.
