Merry Christmas to our readers

In a year of international upheaval, a refugee crisis, political shocks and natural disasters, Dunedin remained an oasis of calm in 2016.
It has been a challenging year for many in the city, but there has also been much to celebrate. Here at The Star, we were thrilled at the response to the “Help Rescue SPCA” campaign, we have watched democracy in action in our local body elections, we have highlighted a fantastic array of events and
celebrated the achievements of many Dunedinites.
The Star reporting team has undergone some changes this year, with reporter David Beck departing for the North Island and Dunedin’s own Jessica Wilson joining me, Greta Yeoman and Joshua Riddiford.
ODT Communities editor Bruce Quirey continues in his role at the editorial helm.
The sales team also has several new faces, and now includes sales manager Kylie Jackson, Laura Morrison, Maureen Townsend, Jennifer Pringle and Jillian Whitaker.
Today’s issue of The Star is the last for this year.
We will be taking a break to recharge the batteries over the Christmas and New Year period, and will return on January 12 with a summer holiday issue.
The first full issue of The Star for 2017 will be published on January 19.
We wish you all peace and good fortune for the festive season, and a prosperous year in 2017.
