Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull’s culinary skills were put to the test yesterday, as he turned his hand to baking scones at the Cancer Society’s Daffodil House.

There was laughter and teasing galore as Mr Cull worked alongside Daffodil House manager Sandra Wilson and volunteer Lyn Cook to bake cheese scones for morning tea.

“I wouldn’t call myself an expert scone maker, but I have been given extremely good direction this morning,” Mr Cull said.

It was Mr Cull’s first visit to the Daffodil House facility, and he was impressed with the comfortable open-plan kitchen-dining-lounge area.

“This is a wonderful facility, which I am sure is very comfortable and friendly for the people staying here,” he said.

For the record, The StarĀ was given one of Mr Cull’s scones to try, and it was delicious.
