Operating on the principle that one person’s unloved book is another person’s literary treasure, the Regent Theatre’s book sale team will be out and about for collection day on Sunday.

Each year, before The Star Regent Theatre 24 Hour Book Sale, the book collectors travel around supermarket car parks and public spaces in a Mainfreight truck, gathering books for sorting.

This year’s Regent 24 Hour Book Sale will be held from noon on June 7 to noon on June 8, and already about 2500 cartons of books are ready to go.

Book sale co-ordinator Alison Cunningham said a good selection of books had already been sorted, but more were always welcome.

“So this weekend is a good time for people to sort out their shelves and bring their unwanted books to us,” Mrs Cunningham said.

The crew will also accept donations of bric-a-brac, art, jigsaw puzzles, CDs, DVDs and other items suitable for the Anything But Books Sale.

Mrs Cunningham said the selection of books for the sale was looking good, and there was a particularly good collection of architecture books this year.

Funds raised through The Star Regent Theatre 24 Hour Book Sale will go towards the continued development of the new Clarkson Studio space at the Regent Theatre.

People not in a collection area can phone the theatre on 477-8597 to arrange a pickup.
