Dunedin residents can celebrate Christmas early with a community party next week.

Nations Church, in South Dunedin, is hosting a free, family-friendly Christmas party at Bathgate Park School, Macandrew Rd, on December 8.

One of the organisers, Tania Campbell, said it was open to all Dunedin residents.

“This is our community coming together and celebrating.

“It’s another opportunity to build a strong community while having some fun together.”

There will be lots of entertainment on the cards, including face-painting, pony rides, visits from the Fire and Emergency New Zealand and police, and magic shows and stalls.

Children will get free treats such as candy floss, and there will be other food available to buy such as churros, ice cream and coffee.

This is the third year the event has been held, and it usually attracts a “few hundred people”.

Ms Campbell hoped it would be “even bigger” this year.

“We are only a wee church but we really pack a punch with things like this.

“We are all really looking forward to it.”
