Funds for hospice

Gilmour Motors manager Emma Gilmour (left) and Otago Community Hospice chief executive officer Ginny Green hold the $2500 cheque given to the hospice from Gilmour Motors. For the past five years, the motor group has been giving $250 each month to a charity chosen by a customer. “Every month customers nominate a charity or community group [and] we do a draw. It’s been really cool because we’re supporting what customers want to be involved with.” It was started as a way to give back to the community, she said. To celebrate the fifth year, Ms Gilmour decided to increase the donation, and the hospice was drawn as the recipient. Ms Gilmour said the hospice was a popular choice for customers, which showed how well thought of it was in the community. Ms Green said the money was a great way to “kick off” the year. January was typically a quiet month, as most people were still on leave, she said. PHOTO/REPORT: JESSICA WILSON
