Dunedin driver wins street stocks

A Dunedin man won this year’s Otago Street Stocks and a Balclutha driver won the Saloon Top Gun at Saturday’s Beachlands Speedway race meeting.
Brent Bower won the street stocks contest, which, promoter Ricky Boulton said, went to the driver who gained the most points (achieved by their individual placings) in three races across the night.
Balclutha driver Mike Verdoner won the Saloon Top Gun. Jeff Friend, from Cromwell, won the Otago Production Saloon.
Mr Boulton said the event was well attended, with plenty of families trackside to watch the action.
“It was a very good turnout.”
A fireworks display meant the evening ended with a bang.
Mr Boulton said entertainment for the next two weeks’ Beachlands meetings would be “massive” and superior to last Saturday’s action.
The Otago Supersaloon Championships would be the main attraction this weekend, drawing in drivers from all over the South Island.
Regional rivalry would also be on display in the Stock Car Battle Fest between Dunedin and Invercargill.
Mr Boulton said there would be no love lost between those drivers.
“Those boys are out to kill each other.”
