Vehicles of all shapes and sizes are invited to take part in the Rev ’n’ Ride Dunedin car cruise next month to raise funds for the New Zealand Cancer Society.
The cruise is being run by Relay for Life team Elevated View Pit Crew on Sunday, October 16.
Co-organiser Janine Bolton said participants would meet at the Dunedin Ice Stadium, where they would receive navigation instructions to a location that would remain a mystery until the day.
‘‘Any type of vehicle is welcome, as long as it’s road legal. We will post the final destination on our Facebook page on the day, so anyone not doing the cruise can come and check out the cars and entertainment.’’
There would be spot prizes for various categories, including Best Overall, Best Bike and Best Other, she said.

The cruise would take about an hour and there would be entertainment at the beginning and end.
‘‘We’ve got local band Basketcase playing; we will have kids’ entertainment — we really want it to be family friendly.’’
The idea for a car cruise came about because the organisers were selfproclaimed ‘‘motor heads’’.
‘‘We thought ‘why not stick to what we know best?’.’’
Entry in the cruise would be a gold coin donation and there would be plenty of entertainment, food and refreshments available at the end. All money raised would go towards the Relay for Life. The group hoped to raise $5000 for the Cancer Society in total.
‘‘Everyone knows someone affected by cancer. I lost my father to cancer in 2012, I’ve got a niece undergoing treatment at the moment and my sister-inlaw has just had treatment for breast cancer. It makes you a lot more thankful for what you do have and keen to do something about it while you can.’’
The Dunedin Relay for Life is at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday, November 19. Last year 143 teams took part in the event and raised a combined total of more than $270,000. – For more information and updates on the car cruise, search Rev ’n’ Ride Dunedin on Facebook.
