Looking for a great family activity to do this school holidays?
Why not join the crew on board one of Dunedin Railways trains?
Over the school holidays, trains will be departing daily through the spectacular Taieri Gorge.
This is a stunning trip which takes you on a historic journey through scenery not seen from the road and is considered one of the great train trips.
Also operated by Dunedin Railways, the Seasider is a popular seaside option.
This train departs once a month to Oamaru where it stops for one hour.
Here you can experience the historic delights of the heritage buildings, have a bite to eat or experience the amazing Steampunk HQ.
Alternatively, you can disembark at the Moeraki Boulders Cafe and bar to explore the magnificent boulders and have a meal or a snack at the cafe.
The train trip allows you to experience a different perspective from the road route and has excellent views as you travel along Otago Harbour to climb the clifftops to emerge from the bush on tothe picture-perfect scenery of the Pacific Ocean and the incredible view over dazzling Blueskin Bay.
This section of railway is considered to be a highlight of the rail network in New Zealand.
The next Seasider is July 10.
Taieri Gorge Railway and the Seasider are both considered ‘‘must-do’’ railway trips in New Zealand, not just for train enthusiasts, and are brilliant, Qualmarkendorsed, all-weather entertainment.
