Dunedin North op-shoppers will soon have another option.
Animal Rescue Network New Zealand will open a charity shop in North Rd tomorrow.
It will be the third such store in the area. The others are the SPCA Otago Op Shop and the Orphans Aid International Op Shop, which opened earlier this month between Carlyle St and North Rd.
Network founder Ana Andrianova said she hoped supporters would donate unwanted goods to the store.
“Not everyone can help us with donations of money but they may have some used stuff at home they don’t need.”
Network trustee Sharon Pine said the North Rd position was a good location because there was a lot of foot traffic.
She was not deterred by other op shops already in the area.
Having three such shops was a good thing “because people come to one and they go to all of them”.
Items for sale included household bric-a-brac, kitchenware and children’s clothes, Ms Pine said.
Ms Andrianova said more donations of used items would be “certainly welcomed”.
The shop will be staffed by two volunteers.
The network works to desex, vaccinate and rehome stray animals, mostly cats.
Ms Andrianova said she founded the network because of the huge number of stray cats in Dunedin.
