Illustrators and writers of books for children and young adults will gather in Dunedin for a national hui, Wild (Writers and Illustrators Love Dunedin) Imaginings, in November.
Co-ordinated by a group of Dunedin authors and lovers of children’s fiction, in conjunction with the Storylines Trust, the full-immersion weekend hui will include panel discussions, keynote addresses and workshops.
Organising group member, Dunedin author Ella West, said the hui was aimed at both established and aspiring children’s writers and illustrators.
Among the featured speakers for the event will be young adult fantasy writer Rachael Craw, young adult author Tessa Duder, children’s book publisher Dame Wendy Pye and junior fiction author Stacy Gregg.
Workshops during the hui will cover everything from building fantasy worlds to West’s own workshop on turning a novel into a film script.
With the Ignition Festival for young readers being held at the same time, Dunedin will be buzzing with the excitement of writing for children.
Many of the authors coming to the city for the Wild Imaginings Hui would also be involved in the Ignition Festival, West said.
Early bird registrations for the Wild Imaginings 2019 Hui are available now, until September 30, and can be made online by searching for the event.
The hui will be held on November 9 and 10, at venues around the Octagon.
