The Port Chalmers & District Lions Club will be bringing the community together to celebrate the festive season with its annual “Carols in the Dell” event.
The popular Christmas event will be held this Sunday, December 15, from 2.30pm at the Lady Thorn Rhododendron Dell, Church St, Port Chalmers.
The festive concert will feature the Dunedin Salvation Army Band, the Dunedin Harmony Chorus, and will be compered by Gladys Hope.
Carols in The Dell will bring the community together to celebrate the festive season in what was the old quarry in Port Chalmers.
The quarry provided building rocks for many of the city’s historical buildings, but has been transformed into a beautiful Rhododendron Dell by the local Lions over the past 20 years.
Lady Thorn Dell is now frequently visited by locals, visitors and cruise ship passengers.
Entry to Carols in the Dell is free, but there will be an opportunity to make a gold coin donation to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.
A free shuttle will operate from outside the Port Chalmers Four Square to the Rhododendron Dell from 1.30pm.
A special welcome is extended to all passengers off the Noordam and Silver Muse, which will be berthed in Port Chalmers on Sunday.
If the weather is inclement, the event will be transferred to the Iona Church, just below the Lady Thorn Dell.
